FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
There are options for families who are not able to provide complete payment at the time of registration. If you have questions please direct them to the BRBHA Adminstrator admin@bowriverhockey.ca.
Below are a few of the programs available to families. Please note, these programs have varying deadlines and qualifications and require differing financial documents. It is recommended you familiarize yourself with requirements and gather documents prior to applying.
- The Flames Even Strength Program (FESP) https://www.hockeycalgary.ca/registration/financial-assistance/flames-evenstrength-program This program provides assistance to low-income families with up to a maximum of $750 per registered player in minor hockey. For more information on FESP funding, contact Pam Douglas at the Hockey Calgary office at pam.douglas@hockeycalgary.com.
- Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund https://assistfund.hockeycanadafoundation.ca/en/index.html The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund is a $1 million fund that has been created to provide help to Canadians experiencing financial challenges. The Assist Fund will provide up to $500 per player in registration fee subsidies to approved applicants who are registered with a Hockey Canada-sanctioned association, helping young Canadians get back on the ice in their communities. This fund is distributed on a first-come-first-served basis, so apply as early as possible.
Applicants are not restricted to the above mentioned programs. Those who do not qualify for funding through any program listed above are welcome to source out a different assistance program on their own.
It is expected that any remaining fees not covered by any/all assistance program(s) will be covered by the player’s family. This difference must be paid by Sept 1.
ELITE AA/AAA TRY-OUTS:
The cost to play elite hockey is substantially more than community as most teams have travel requirements, more practices and games, and off ice training. Players must try-out to make one of these teams. The cost associated with trying out is paid to NWCAA and GHC.
NORTHWEST CALGARY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION: In Calgary, "Elite" or “Quadrant Hockey” is made up of 4 hockey associations for U13 AAA and U15 through U18 AA and AAA. Bow River feeds into quadrant teams at the NWCAA. All players registering for elite team try-outs at NWCAA must also register with Bow River by selecting the Bow River $500 Elite Try-out deposit. Bow River will refund this deposit should you secure a spot on an elite team. We will collect the balance of your community fees from you if you are released from tryouts at the elite level. Bow River Community hockey fees will be due in full at the time of release.
*If you do not register with us during regular registration, the BRBHA will not be able to guarantee your player a spot. Should a spot be available, you will be subject to a $250 late fee.
CALGARY FIRE: Girls Hockey Calgary’s elite AA and AAA teams for U13 through U18 are hosted by the CALGARY FIRE. Players registering for elite team try-outs with GHC must indicate whether they wish to remain with GHC or return to Bow River if they are unsuccessful. If their intent is to return to Bow River they must let the Administrator at GHC know. They will also need to register at Bow River by selecting the Bow River $500 Elite Try-out deposit.
Choosing the Bow River Elite try-out deposit in the Bow River registration process only tells BRBHA of your player's intent, it DOES NOT register your player with the NWCAA or GHC. You will need to contact the North West Calgary Athletic Association or Girls Hockey Calgary directly by visiting their website.
It is the player/parent's responsibility to inform Bow River's administrator whether or not they have made an elite team. Timely communication of this information is crucial so that plans can be made to include the player (or not include as the case may be) in our evaluation process.
