Program Overview

The Flames Try Hockey Program is designed to introduce hockey to children who are new to the sport in a fun, structured, and supportive environment.

  • Ages: 5–11
    (Born between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2021)
  • Eligibility:
    • For children who have never previously enrolled in minor hockey in Canada
    • Participants must be able to skate (this is not a learn-to-skate program)
  • Location: Bowness Sportsplex
  • Cost: $125
  • Jersey: Included
  • Socks: Included

 

Program Schedule

Fridays: 5:15–6:15 PM
April 10 – June 12 (8 sessions)

Equipment Requirements

  • Full hockey equipment is required
  • Participants may bring their own gear or purchase equipment at a discount
  • The Bow River Bruins have partnered with Adrenalin Source for Sports to offer discounted equipment for registered participants

Community Eligibility

This program is open only to families living within the Bow River Bruins Hockey Calgary boundary, including:

  • Bowness
  • Crestmont
  • Greenwood
  • Greenbriar
  • Lynx Ridge
  • Montgomery
  • Point McKay
  • Rockland Park
  • Rocky Ridge
  • Royal Oak
  • Trinity Hills
  • Tuscany
  • Valley Ridge

All participants must be eligible to participate. Families will be notified if eligibility criteria are not met.
A waitlist will be created once the program reaches capacity.

 


Hockey Canada Registration

  • All participants must be registered with Hockey Canada
  • A valid Hockey Canada ID number is required

PLEASE NOTE:

*All withdrawals are subject to a $50 Administrative Fee. NO REFUNDS will be issued AFTER MARCH 8, 2026

 

IMPORTANT:  The Flames Try Hockey Program cannot run without COACHES and other volunteers.   Coaches responsibilities include supervising locker rooms and Running practices. All coaches must have a valid Police Check through Bow River and Respect In Sport for Activity Leaders. Current Bow River Coaches that want to coach this program will be given early registration priority.

 

We will be looking for volunteers to hand out Jerseys on the first day. Other Volunteer opportunities will come up through the program.
